Employment Minister Stuart Robert says the Australian people must step up and get into work as the prospect of immigration is at least 12 months off.
Speaking from Darwin, he highlighted the participation rate of 72.7 per cent in the territory, well above the national average of 66.3
“There are so many younger Australians working but they need so many more. So this will be a big focus this year – on skilling, employment and apprenticeships.
“In the next 12 months we need to do it without immigration. We have to confront this challenge as a nation without immigration.
“But we also want to make sure every Australian has an opportunity for a job.”
