They’ve been waiting for it for years. Communities across western New South Wales are being re-energised as a major flow of water makes its way from Queensland down the Darling River.

The water is allowing fish and birds to return, and giving farmers a chance to rebuild after years of drought.
National rural reporter Kath Sullivan has been following the water from town to town as it makes its way downstream.
